Mane & Co at 212 South Main in Waurika is your place for the perfect spa day. With 85 years of combined experience in their professions, the women of Mane and Co offer the latest hairstyles and coloring, facials, pedicures and manicures and massages.  Their expertise combined with their warm, welcoming and fun environment make it a true asset to Waurika’s business community.

“I’ve given first haircuts to the same persons I’ve pinned a veil on just before they walked down the aisle at their wedding,” Lisa Adkins, Hairstylists and co-manager, stated. “We laugh and we cry with our customers because they become family.”  Adkins graduated from Aladdin Cosmetology School in Duncan and has been a hair stylist for 23 years. “I like people the best,” she continued, “I once had a job where they told me I couldn’t talk. That didn’t work out for me.”

When asked about the biggest changes that she’s seen, Lisa said, “We used to work hard to color roots and gray hairs, now we add roots and use silver coloring.” “Color is probably my favorite, but I love to do Bob haircuts and also enjoy making major changes,” She continued. “I love it when I cut off many inches of hair and the person has a brand-new look.”  When asked about funny experiences she had while cutting hair she mentioned several.  One that stood out was from several years ago when a  young customer’s mother sat him down in the chair and he yelled, “People. People, help me.”

Lisa and her husband, Tim, have been married for 26 years and have two children, Chloe and Mallory who are 10th graders at Waurika High School.  Both Lisa and Tim are WHS graduates.

Susie Harris, Massage Therapist, graduated from the Hands-On Therapeutics Massage School in Wichita Falls, Tx and Body Business School of Massage Therapy in Ardmore and has been doing massage work for 20 years. She has special certifications in Cupping, Infant Massage and Trigger Points Massage Therapy.  Cupping therapy is a traditional Chinese and Middle Eastern practice that people use to treat a variety of conditions. It involves placing cups at certain points on a person’s skin. A practitioner creates suction in the cups, which pulls against a person’s skin.

“Most of my customers are repeat customers and they come from all over. Often people think they get better treatments when they go to Dallas or the Oklahoma City metro for massages or for the other services Mane and Co provides,” Harris stated. “What they don’t realize is that we all have the same training and what you get here are many, many years of experience. That’s why it’s so rewarding when you have repeat customers who tell you that you’ve really made a difference in whatever it is that brought them in for treatment.”

“I enjoy helping people and it’s rewarding when I can help someone who comes in with significant pain and I can provide the massage treatment that gives them relief,” Susie continued. “I also work closely with Dr. Chad Williams and often help his customers by loosening their muscles prior to treatment.”

Her customer demographic has changed in recent years.  She works with more student athletes. “I have quite a few high school students for various sports who come in for a massage after a big game or to work out muscular issues after practice,” Susie said. “A massage helps all ages.”

Susie is married to Art Harris and has four children, Kelsie and Bobby Harris and Justin and Dustin Boren. They also have four grandchildren, Maddex, 7; Bodee, 2; Creek, 2 and Waylon, 1.

Irma Hunter
Sherry Waid

Irma Hunter, hairstylist, joined Mane & Co six years ago so she could be  closer to her brother. She moved to Waurika from Ardmore. With 41 years of styling experience, many of her customers from the Ardmore area continue to drive here so they can keep her as their stylist. She graduated from the Aladdin Beauty College of Ardmore.

“I like working at Mane and Co and am grateful that many of my long-time customers make the drive here.  In this business, your customers are your family.” Irma continued, “I enjoy working with everyone here.”  “It’s always interesting when someone comes in and says ‘Can you fix this?’ when they’ve tried a home coloring kit or cut their own hair.” “There’s never a dull day in this industry.”

She enjoys working with color. “I like anything with color and also enjoy perms and cuts, so I guess I just like it all,” Irma stated. “It’s also a great day when Jan (Farris) brings in her Rollo cookies.” She joked.  Irma does standard Pedicures and Manicures, but said she does not do anything fancy like gel nails.

When asked her advice for having healthy hair, “Use a professional shampoo and be careful with color.”  Irma has three children, 10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Sherry Waid graduated from the Penny Miller Cosmetology Academy in Pauls Valley two and a half years ago and started Facials by Sherry.  She is an esthetician and does Facials, peels, dermaplaning and very soon will provide facial and body sugaring for hair removal.  Dermaplaning is an exfoliating treatment that involves gently scraping the surface of your skin with a surgical scalpel to remove dead skin and peach fuzz.

“I love doing dermaplaning because it provides instant gratification by scraping the dead skin cells and providing a youthful glow.” Sherry said. “It’s one my most popular procedures. I also look forward to adding the facial and body sugaring because it’s a service my customers have asked me to provide.”

Sherry says one of the most important things you can do for your skin is to remember to put on your sunscreen. “Just always wear sunscreen. Always.” Waid stated.  She also really likes her primary product line which is Image. “Image is a cosmeceutical product that really nourishes your skin,” Waid stated.

Sherry has been married to Lance Waid for 32 years. They have two children, Evan, 26 and Emily, 18.

When you go to Mane and Co be prepared to have excellent care, but also to have a laugh or two. They really do enjoy their customers and treat each one who enters like a family member or long-time friend.  “I really like the Shop Local Waurika Program,” Lisa Adkins stated. “When you come here and get all our services you can get four stickers for your shop local game card at one location.”
